SERIOUS JOURNALISM AND POPULAR NEWSPAPERS

Files under General | Jan 13th

EXTRA (Globo Group) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a great example of how a popular newspaper can be a good newspaper and do serious journalism.

Like this almost “show, don’t tell” front page.

Just the facts, just the pictures and a compelling headline.

Well done!

DILEMA: GOOD PICTURES, BAD PHOTO EDITING

Files under General | Jan 3rd

Oh, boy!

If a pictures magazine cannot respect their own pictures, they need another photo editor.

What about all this type garbage?

Shame to them!

WHAT A FRONT PAGE!

Files under General | Dec 29th

The Virginian-Pilot, the newspaper redesigned by Deborah Withey, had yesterday a fantastic news mix.

From a memorable and exhilarating picture to facts, what’s next, and advice.

A superb front page news package from Denis Finley’s team.

This is what happens when your editor is a former photo editor.

Well done!

And this is, for me, the biggest lesson learned from the directors and editors of i.

They are the ones that deserve the credit for this display of creativity and courage.

The INNOVATION team was only a provocateur.

They are the ones that at the end of the day implemented our crazy ideas.

Parabens!

This is a selection of some of the best pages of i.

Keep in mind that this is a six month old compact and compelling quality national newspaper of Portugal.

A new newspaper with an editorial and graphic team of around 80 journalists, working in an “state-of-the-art” multimedia newsroom designed by INNOVATION’s partners Calau&Riera, a media architects studio based in Barcelona.

Enjoy this display of creativity, good journalism and innovation.
