I agree with many disappointed readers of El Pais.
I don’t like its last redesign.
At all.
The first design by Reinhard Gade and Julio Alonso was almost perfect.
Since then, all the changes have been just cosmetic.
El Pais, like many newspapers, doesn’t need to change the design, but the content.
The newsroom management.
The news format.
The news stategy.
To attract new and younger readers.
Young readers don’t buy newspapers for the design.
But for the content.
… and, yes, for the nice free watches (hopefully they work well).

This Friday, BusinessWeek will present its new graphic design.
My reaction is WHY?
This is one of the most successful weekend reads in the United States.
The current design is strong, clear, well-organized and easy to read.
So … I am worried about any cosmetic lifting.
This magazine was redesigned four years ago, and in my opinion as a regular subscriber, BusinessWeek doesn’t need any makeup.

The front page picture by Pedro MadueƱo shows the president of the Spanish government, the socialist Mr. Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, with the president and publisher Javier de Godo, and the editor Jose Antich, looking at one of the first copies of the new La Vanguardia.
Tonight the new presses of La Vanguardia printed a full color paper, after a reception attended by more than 500 guests.
These are some of the new pages:

UPDATE: Sorry, except the front page, which now has the real colors and type of the new La Vanguardia, these pages are from the pdf viewer of La Vanguardia and have extreme colors and some typography that is not correct. Thanks to Diego Areso.

El Pais is going to be redesigned.
