What I like of the list is that it is quite positive in its outlook… at least if you love journalism. Unfortunately, I can easily make a counter-list from the “Dark Side”:

    1. Media’s Soup will continue to thin-out as light, “fast food” entertainment reporting’s hold in the kitchen of media giants will continue to grow as the business tries to hang on to old business models.

    2. Thousands face layoffs as newsrooms try and stream out their operations. Reporting of all kinds will continue to decline in quality, though it will grow in quantity.

    3. The press will become megaphones.

    4. The Fourth Estate will be less, no more.

    5. The wine will become alcohol-free and “organic light” as the powers that be will try and distract from real-world macro crises of confidence as the economy continues to stumble. The Media will serve the state, not the people.

    6. The growth of Visual will negatively affect journalism.

    7. People will increasingly not believe their eyes.

    8. iPads, together with the noise generated by other tablet devices will continue to confuse both consumers and media creators. lots of money will be wasted. A few winners will emerge. Apple will provide, but many others will tank.

    9. Digital Media will be completely re-defined. It won’t be profitable, but it will be valuable. Very.

    10. Sadly it will all be about the bottle, not the wine (thee is a lot more sexiness in talking about features, design, and cool technology than complex stories, values, long-narratives, truth & justice. N’est-ce pas?

Honestly, I would very much like to be wrong, but in truth, I believe both sets will combine. We live in interesting times.

Have a great New Year, and keep on blogging.
