Files under General | Feb 28th

24-hour later, the international media is still covering the Chile story mainly with agencies or remote “regional correspondents”.

Financial Times: from Buenos Aires.

The New York Times: from Rio de Janeiro.

Los Angeles Times: from Bogota.

USA Today: with newswire services.

The Washington Post: from Chile with “a special correspondent”

El Mundo: from Chile.

La Vanguardia: from Barcelona (since today from Chile).

El Pais: from Chile.

The Times: from London.

The Daily Telegraph: from London.

The Independent: from London.

The Guardian: from Chile.

Libération: with AFP.

Le Monde: with Reuters and AFP.

Well, Haiti had better in-situ coverage.

What a shame!

Like The Economist maps and charts, the BBC uses simple and clear infographics that tell the story.

And the same does The New York Times team (Erin Aigner, Joe Burgess, Alicia Desantis, Xaquin G.V., Sergio Pecanha, Archie Tse and Charlie Williams) with these ones.

Seven people covering the Chile story with graphics, and one regional correspondent covering the tragedy… from Rio de Janeiro!

THE NEW YORK TIMES COVERING THE EARTHQUAKE IN CHILE…FROM RIO DE JANEIRO

Files under General | Feb 27th

2010-02-27_1621

They are called “regional correspondents”.

What a shame!

The NewYork Times covers Chile… from Brazil.

Well the distance between Rio and Santiago is only 1814.31 miles…

It’s like covering Spain from Russia.

That’s the first problem.

The second is the second class content of the dispatch from Rio.

Alexei Barrionuevo reports quoting… Associated Press, Chile’s TVN Cable, the Department of Homeland Security, CNN International, Mrs. Bachelet statements, Facebook and Twitter messages, The White House press secretary, Reuters…

So here we have the most important daily newspaper of the world serving a “mix salad” of second hand news where Eric Lipton contributed reporting from Washington, and Charles Newbery from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Alexei Barrionuevo reported from Rio de Janeiro, and Liz Robbins from New York.

You better follow Twitter real witnesses, than these journalism bureaucrats.

MORE MICHAEL WOLFF BULLSHIT

Files under General | Feb 26th

murdoch-1

Read the first paragraph of this poor column and you will see how to write 597 words without any real information, but pretending that you are an insider.

“I ran into James Murdoch last night…” Oh, my God… That’s incredible!

The author of the Murdoch biography seems to be obsessed with the CEO of News Corporation.

As Miran, Pavic twitters to Wolff and about his book “you seem to be compensating for notion it was too soft”

So without real news, he plays the bullshit card.

He is not the only one.

Yesterday, the Manhattan gossip blog, did the same but worse with this kind of pseudo-journalism.

Well, Murdoch never has been a popular figure, but at least deserves some credit as media investor.

Others speak, he does.

Perhaps he is wrong with the pay-model for all his publications, but at the en of the day, you don’t need to worry.

He is the boss.

It’s his money.

And if you don’t need to like him.

So all this anti-Murdoch furor seems out of focus.

Full disclosure:

In my case, I subscribe to The Times of London.

And, I’m sorry Mr. Wolff, I like it very much.

His company invited us for a “One Day with Innovation” and the meeting with his publishers and editors in Australia was a pleasure, and he also wrote a terrific Foreword for our 2009 INNOVATIONS IN NEWSPAPER, and he was very gracious with us.
