Good news from Puerto Rico.
Primera Hora (pictured in 2007), the leading quality popular newspaper of the Caribbean island, is changing today in a big way.
Changing because it wants to keep and increase its lead in the market.
Changing because now is the time to invest in new ideas, new content, new design, new formats, new newsrooms and new news-management systems.
Primera Hora was founded in 1997 by the publishers of El Nuevo Dia, the Ferre Rangel family.
Then, the project was led by Carlos Nido as general manager (currently sales VP for El Nuevo Día) and Hector Olave as the first editor.
On Jan. 1, 2000, Juan M. Alvarez became the new general manager.
And last year, Pablo Badilla was appointed as Primera Hora’s new editor in chief.
For the past two years, INNOVATION has been working with both El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora.
The Primera Hora project has been very, very unique.
Why?
Because it’s a change for a newspaper that didn’t need to change.
A change when everything is going well.
The best time to change!
Primera Hora has been growing since it was launched.
And continues to do so.
Last year.
This year.
In circulation.
On the Internet.
And in advertising sales.
So?
Well, the owners told us that they wanted a better product and a better newsroom.
Because they knew that this newspaper could have more and better readers and more and better advertisers.
And grow faster and faster.
In a few hours, I will show you the new product.
INNOVATION’s Carlos Soria, Marta Botero and Javier Errea are in San Juan right now working on the launch in the new state-of-the-art building and multimedia-integrated newsroom that we designed as a part of the change.
Check back to see a really “hot” newspaper in a very “hot” market with a fantastically “hot” redesign.
