FT.COM, OR HOW TO DESIGN YOUR NEWS WEB SITE

I like the ft.com home page.

It’s very simple.

But it displays the main stories very well in big type …

It’s an example of what newspapers and news Web sites must do.

Tell your readers:

“Look, these are the most relevant or interesting stories of the moment.”

Period.

The problem with the standard Web pages of many newspapers is that they don’t select, they don’t work for us, and they end up presenting chaotic and busy, busy home pages.

Home pages with everything, for everybody… that end up not working for anybody.

The FT works for you.

It’s an editor’s paper.

It’s journalism caviar.

Online and offline.

That’s the difference.

Quality versus quantity.

Caviar versus pottage!
