MAPS AND INFOGRAPHICS ARE BETTER THAN FAKE PICTURES AND NO FACTS

These are the first maps and infographics from the air accident today in Barajas Madrid.

(PUBLICO.ES, Madrid)

(SOITU.ES, Madrid)

(ABC.ES, Madrid)

And an animated one from prisacom.

The problem, as you can see, is that all these graphics show different versions of the same story.

So with no facts, fake images and imagination rule.

Like in the past, some newspapers used old pictures to show the kind of aircraft that crashed this afternoon in Madrid.

But this fake picture has three problems:

1. It’s not from the Madrid airport (it’s from the one in Bilbao).

2. It shows a take off when crashed airplanes go down, not up.

3. It’s decoration, not journalism.

And more confusion:

20minutos.es says on the same site that the aircraft was “15 years old” and that it was “more than 20 years old.”

Elpais.es insists that it is “15 years old (nine with Spanair).”
