THE MEGA-INFOGRAPHIC FROM AMG’S AL BAYAN, OR HOW DUBAI BECOMES THE NEW MECCA FOR VISUAL JOURNALISM:

Luis Chumpitaz was born in Peru, and started as a visual journalist in Diario El Sol and Epensa.

Since 2007 he has been the Infographics director of Dubai’s Arab Media Group (AMG).

AMG is the publisher of the three newspapers that INNOVATION created (Emirates Business 24/7 in English) and redesigned (Emarat Al Youm and Al Bayan, in Arabic) in 2007-08.

One of our goals was to establish a Visual Graphics Superdesk.

Abdulatif Alsayegh, AMG’s visionary CEO, sees his company as an “information engine” and wanted to start with these integration efforts led by Mustafa Alrawi, the AMG “Fusionist.”

INNOVATION’s Michael Agar was in charge of the integration process.

Luis is now the head of this superdesk.

Al Bayan is the main quality Arabic paper in Dubai.

INNOVATION’s Javier Errea, Gabriel Sama, Miguel Angel Jimeno and Pablo Errea developed and implemented the content and graphic redesign of the new Al Bayan.

We atarted to work with AMG more than two years ago.

What a journey, and what a joy to see this kind of terrific work!

The pictures are from the SND Region 20 Web site.

Luis and his team sit in front of this fantastic mega-wallpaper infographic: Liz Ramos Prado, Karina Aricoche, Germán Fernandez, Luis, and Maher Al Johari

Germán and Liz did the illustrations using classic charcoal pencils for each piece.

Karina researched the factual information.

And finally, with the help of Mohamed Saifi, Al Bayan’s senior sports reporter, the whole team got the final edition and the translation for each piece.

The Al Bayan design team was in charge of pre-production for the supplement.

And these are some pictures of the daily posters inserted in the newspaper.

Dubai is now the new Mecca for Visual Journalism and Luis and his team are the new Infographics rulers.

Congratulations!
