This picture is of INNOVATION’s Stephen Quinn and me at the reception hall of the Arab Media Group (AMG) headquarters in Dubai when we started our work in the UAE two years ago.
Last week, INNOVATION launched it’s third newspaper project in Dubai for AMG.
First, we invented the new Emirates Business 24/7, which is now a smashing success in circulation and advertising.
Then we relaunched Emarat Alyoum, the first Arab tabloid in the UAE, also with big gains in circulation and advertising.
And now, the broadsheet Al Bayan, the leading Arab quality paper of Dubai.
The INNOVATION team here was lead by Gabriel Sama as project manager, with Javier Errea, Pablo Errea, Michael Agar and Miguel Angel Jimeno who developed and implemented the new editorial and graphic models.
All of us had the pleasure to work under the leadership of AMG’s CEO Abdullatif Al Sayegh and its Managing Director, Ahmed Al Hamadi.
The editor of Al Bayan, Da’en Shahine, and its new art director, Mohamed Kamal Elmajmi, were crucial for the big change.
In our first meeting in Dubai, Da’en Shahine said that this was not going to be a cosmetic change.
A few months later Gabriel and I met Mohammed Al Gergawi, Chairman of Dubai Holding, in his office at the Emirates Towers and his reactions, suggestions and support were very important.
Today, Dubai has three modern, interesting and good looking newspapers.
They have different targets, but a common DNA: good design, better journalism, more readers than ever and a lot of advertising.
Newspaper are good business in Dubai.
