I have been reading a blog about the 29th Best of Newspaper Design Contest over the last few days.
And I found this blog to be very disturbing.
Why?
Because they leaked partial results of a competition and at the end of the day they were unable to provide final, full results.
So, readers are entertained by entertainers who it seems had a lot of fun while the judges judged what must be a secret and confidential process.
This has been a serious issue for many years and this blog leaking is not going to help to improve the credibility of the Society for News Design (SND) competition.
It looks more and more provincial and parochial.
Look at the list of the 12 newspapers that, according to the blog, won most of the awards:
Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, National Post (Canada), Zaman (Turkey), St. Petersburg Times, The Boston Globe, The Plain Dealer, Hartford Courant, Chicago Tribune, Dallas Morning News, San Jose Mercury News, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
10 U.S. newspapers.
Only two from other countries: Canada and Turkey.
And very revealing: all these newspapers, all of them, are losing circulation.
