PolitiFact is a fantastic Web site from The St. Petersburg Times in Florida and Congressional Quarterly, created to help voters separate fact from falsehood in the 2008 presidential campaign.
A few examples:
Chris Dodd: “The fact of the matter is that my colleague from New York, Senator Clinton, there are 50 percent of the American public that say they’re not going to vote for her.”
Rudy Giuliani: “Iranian mullahs took American hostages and they held the American hostages for 444 days. …The one hour in which they released them was the one hour in which Ronald Reagan was taking the Oath of Office …”
Barack Obama: “Gas prices have never been higher, and Exxon Mobil’s profits have never been higher.”
Mitt Romney: “I just talked about guns. I told you what my position was, and what I did as governor, the fact that I received the endorsement of the NRA.”
