Three dramatic reasons for the victory by Barack Obama in Iowa last night:

1. A black person voted for by white people.

2. Winner with the young and the independents.

3. Women went for him and not for Hillary Clinton.

The biggest difference between Obama and Clinton remains his early opposition to the Iraq war, which she voted to authorize.

Americans are for change.

Like newspaper readers, voters want something different.

And not the usual suspects.

In 1980, I had the opportunity to cover the U.S. presidential election and I was in Atlanta for the Democratic convention and in New Orleans for the Republican one.

Then, there wasn’t too much information.

In 2008, you don’t need to be there.

The most dramatic change for journalists and voters is that the online world brings you an amazing amount of information, opinions, analysis, data, and quality reporting like never before.
