After INNOVATION’s redesign, Diario de Noticias in Madeira (Portugal) looks more strong and elegant than ever. This is a local newspaper with a new personality. Guillermo Nagore has done a super job, and the design team of DN lead by Rodrigo Buldrini is improving the original model. Well done!

Campaigns work. So the corporate effort of the RBS newspapers in Brazil will work.
We need more newspaper campaigns.

In his blog, a friend of the blogger killed on December 14th writes:
CPJ.ORG HAS NOT LISTED ALI IN THE JOURNALISTS KILLED IN 2007, WHY?
I’ve listed the details of his death below as they appear on Alive in Baghdad’s blog.
We’re determined to continue and will be raising money for the future of Alive in Baghdad via a new ChipIn widget soon.
We raised $2500 to cover the costs of his funeral and support the family.
We hope you will continue to support Alive in Baghdad as it continues.
You can also call the Committee to Protect Journalists and ask why they did not list Ali Shafeya in their annual list of Journalists killed in 2007.
Here is their phone number: 212-465-1004
The morgue report says that Ali took 31 bullets between the chest and the head and died immediately.
Watch this video interview with him and you’ll see that Ali was not afraid to express his views and ideas.
Rest in peace.

If they can do it in Japan with drink bottles, why can’t we do it with newspapers?

Another smart post from Media Circus about Murdoch and his top brass.

Jeff Jarvis in his New Media Review of the Year at The Guardian:
Facebook has 50 million active users (each worth $300, according to Microsoft, as opposed to $500 a year for a newspaper reader, according to Deutsche Bank).
They are joined by 200,000 more daily, all of whom spend an average of 20 minutes every day inside.
And, beyond that, according to Compete, Facebook is now ready to surpass MySpace:

The New York Times reports:
More journalists have been killed worldwide in 2007 than in any year since 1994, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, an independent group that promotes press freedom and defends the rights of journalists.
In the committee’s annual report to be released Tuesday, 64 journalists died in circumstances linked to their work in 2007. Nearly half of those deaths, 31, took place in Iraq, which was ranked as the deadliest country for journalists for the fifth consecutive year.

Three examples of how to “cover” a story without real news, real pictures, and real information.
Decoration.
Not journalism!

It’s a fascinating city.

And this amazing blog chronicles the old and new Shanghai.

The new city landscape.

The people.

The streets.

The food.

The love.

The traditions.

The sick…

If “to see, and to show” was the mission of LIFE magazine, Henry Luce would hire this photo blogger today.
