Newspaper Innovation reports:
CashDaily, the free daily spin-off of the paid business weekly CASH, will be the only Cash from the end of this month on.
The weekly will be closed down.
This, of course, could mean two things: either the daily is so successful that the weekly is no longer needed, or, the weekly has suffered so much from the free daily that it was only a burden for publisher Ringier.
CASH was one of the most successful publications of Ringier.
I used to call CASH “the Rolling Stone of Zurich bankers.”
Why?
Because it had a very bright design and serious business journalism with a happy face.
CASH became an international brand for quality popular business journalism.
When INNOVATION had to design several financial newspapers, CASH was always a reference model.
The news about this takeover means only one thing.
If you get Cashdaily for free, why are you going to pay for the weekend edition?
This is just another case of self-canibalization.
