Files under British press, Evelyn Waugh, FRONT PAGES, Scoop, THE DAILY TELEGRAPH, WF Deedes, commentators, promotion | May

I like very much how today The Daily Telegraph promotes one of its most famous commentators.
A strong banner with a good headline.
We are promoting promotions.
But the first thing we should promote in our newspapers is our best content.
Well done!
WF Deedes, Baron Deedes, is an institution in the British press.
Born in 1913, this veteran journalist has been both a member of the British cabinet and the editor of The Daily Telegraph (1974-1986).
It seems that Deedes was also the journalist used by Evelyn Waugh as the model and inspiration in the novel Scoop, although Deedes himself denies this.
Waugh and Deedes had reported together from Abyssinia in 1936.
