MSNBC said today it will drop its simulcast of the Imus in the Morning radio program, responding to growing outrage over the radio host’s racial slur against the Rutgers women’s basketball team.
Don Imus triggered the uproar on his April 4 show, when he referred to the mostly black Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.”
The network’s decision came after a growing list of sponsors — including American Express Co., Staples Inc., Procter & Gamble Co., and General Motors Corp. — said they were pulling ads from Imus’ show for the indefinite future.
This is an almost instant killing of one of their most popular and controversial talk-radio broadcasters, and shows how you can not play with the feelings of your audience.
Blogs and online web sites played a big role in this crisis.
Dan Rather didn’t survive.
Imus neither.
And many more swill follow the same end as the public is not silent anymore.
Watch out Lou Dobbs!
Watch out Bill O’Reilly!
Watch out Howard Stern!
Watch out arrogant media demagogues.
