TIME INC. MAGAZINES AND THE GOOD OLD TIMES…

Jeff Jarvis explains very well why Time Inc. magazines were and are very inefficient.

His own experience shows why the recent cuts of personal were needed, but many years ago.

Well, again and again, the same story.

Many people doing few stories.

Productivity almost zero.

Too much “thinking.”

Not to too much “doing.”

Now you can understand why many os these journalists go wild when you ask them to post a story on line, or produce a podcast.

They have been raised in a star system where you don´t work too much as soon as you get to some of these leading publishing houses.

So…

New magazines with new ideas conquer many of the markets that the old brands used to control.

Look at Rodale Press magazines.

Look at Felix Dennis publications.

They have 10% of the staff, and they make it.
Why?

Why?

They work.

Harder?

Yes.

As simple as that.
