HOW TO RESCUE THE FRENCH NEWSPAPER INDUSTRY

A French "think tank", The Montaigne Instute delivers a 116 page report and says: the French Newspaper Industry needs a "Marshall Plan."

I am not sure.

Some of the 10 basic proposals are OK to me but the appeal to the State (means the Government) to triple the current aids to the press , and invest around 1,5 billion USD is to much if we want to keep our companies free of political pressures.

Of course, what the French government has to do is to free the regulations that protect obsolete union and business practices.

The crisis of the newspaper industry needs big changes, but not more government intervention.
