THOMSON TODAY
There is a fascinating story in tomorrow´s New York Times (July 3) about the new business of the Thomson family.
Read just the the lead:
"Those with long memories may recall (Thomson) as the owner of The Times of London and a string of newspapers in small-town America.
But Thomson, based in Toronto, sold those papers a long time ago and has turned itself into a major purveyor of media of a different sort -specialized, high-end electronic information sold by subscription to lawyers, financial traders, academics and physicians.
Last year, Thomson posted revenues of $8.7 billion, exceeding the $7.59 billion reported by the newspaper leader Gannett."
Not bad for a big strategic move made only 10 years ago.
